School Gives Up on Synchronizing Clocks, Implements Time Zones
After years of struggling to synchronize the school’s clocks, Hanover High’s administration announced on Thursday that they are trying a different strategy. “Hanover High prides itself on preparing students for the world at large,” stated principal Julie Stevenson. “Clocks around the world aren’t synchronized, so why should our school’s be?”
The new system breaks the halls into differentiated time zones based on the faultiness of their clocks. Music Department Standard Time (MDT) is defined four minutes and 34 seconds behind Math Hallway Standard Time (MHST), which also includes select rooms in the science hallway. The English Hallway Standard Time (EHST) will run just 15.5 seconds ahead of Main Office Standard Time (MOST). The Social Studies department has decided to opt out of the time zone system, and will be testing its own time zone method based on a 4 point system and teacher feedback. Mr. Phipps has maintained his commitment to continue to let his Methods H classes out 5 minutes late, regardless of the time zone.
The Scheduling Committee has promised to have an updated schedule for the time zone system by next year.
