Boys Hockey Tops Nashua North-Souhegan
Hanover 7, Nashua North-Souhegan 1 (01/03/2018)
Our Hanover boys hockey team continues their regular season winning streak, making their record 4-0 after a 7-1 win over Nashua North-Souhegan. Three goals were scored only three minutes into the match. Silas Oberting made quick work, scoring 30 seconds into the game. Following Oberting, Owen Stadheim and Charlie Plottner added a couple of their own, assisted by captains Braxton McNulty and David Lehmann. Lehmann, Stadheim, and Oberting were the power three in the 7-1 massacre, adding two goals each.
The Marauders have had a strong start to the 2017-18 season despite graduating eleven seniors with only four returning seniors: David Lehmann at forward, Braxton McNulty at defense, Peter Warhold at forward, and Harris LaRock protecting net at goalie. Playing time is spread quite differently this year; the underclassmen are getting their fair share of ice time. A couple of outstanding underclassmen include freshmen Matty Gardner and sophomores Owen Stadheim, Silas Oberting, and Cameron Woods.
Hanover took advantage of two Nashua N-S trips to the penalty box and added a couple scores to the scoreboard. The bus started to warm up early in the game as Nashua’s only goal came in the first period due to hard work by LaRock in goal. LaRock, who has been on the varsity roster the past couple years as a backup goalie, is now the team’s starting goalie. He has proved himself to be very reliable and has only let in four goals in the four regular season games.
The offense did a great job outshooting Nashua 41-7. However, the leader of the defense, Braxton McNulty, gives the defense props as they played a big role in the win.
“The defense played hard throughout the entire game… we moved the puck around well and had good control… one player was not doing everything and there was very good team chemistry tonight. Overall, everyone worked very hard and there was good team effort all around,” McNulty commented.
We wish our boys the best of luck against a tough Exeter team this weekend and throughout the rest of the season.
