Victorious Volleyball Season
The Hanover Volleyball team has just finished their regular season, and will be advancing to the playoffs. They won the large majority of their games. The varsity team is quite diverse this year. It is made up of several girls from every grade. Their cooperation is stronger than ever. Varsity player Tristan Rollins had this to say about the team’s strengths,“The players are very close; grade doesn’t matter. We all get along like old friends.” They may look like they are all just having a good time, but as soon as they step on the court they become a machine. Their intense focus can be felt from even the back of the bleachers. Their grunts and yelps sound like barbaric bursts of sound. However, it is actually a finely tuned communication method. A certain yelp can inform the entire team exactly where the incoming ball is headed.
To get warmed up before each games the team goes out into the hallway and stretches while the visiting team practices in the gym. When it is time to start, the entire Hanover team pounds on the lockers outside the gym doors. It sounds as though a stampede of deadly metal robots is about to storm the court. This gets everyone really excited to get out there and defeat the opposing school. The varsity coach, Amy Carney, is said to rule with an iron fist. She lets the players know exactly what they are good at, and what they aren’t so good at. She makes sure to play each player to their strengths to keep the team as consistent as possible. If the team was a family, Coach would be the strict stepmom. Many things contribute to the performance of a team, but what counts is that everyone is doing their best and having fun.
