Welcome!

Hello, Hanover High!
Welcome to the new and improved Broadside 2010! To start off the year, your new editors here at the Broadside have decided to add some new features to the paper to make it a more interesting and better read, and one that is more connected and relevant to the school community.

This year, you’ll find many more regular articles in the Broadside. Each issue will include a student-written editorial about a topic of the author’s choice. With this addition, we hope that students will voice more of their opinions and provoke thought and debate among our readers. We also plan to print teachers’ submissions as a regular column: although most of the Broadside staff consists of students, our intended audience is the entire school community. With this in mind, we encourage teachers as well as students to write on a regular basis.

Other additions to the Broadside will be less article-based. We have a brand new comic strip, created by HHS junior Grace Patton, to add some laughs and creativity to the paper. We also plan to include more sports-oriented features, such as a collage of action photos and more articles on upcoming and past games.

The last, but perhaps the most important new feature of the Broadside will be its online edition. In recent years, more and more newspapers have been making the transition to online publication, and the Broadside plans to follow suit! We hope to create and maintain our own website that can be updated continuously, ensuring that our news is relevant, up-to-date, and readily accessible to everyone. The website will be completely updated at least biweekly to begin with, but as our staff and support grows, we hope to update the website much more frequently. The future of our print issues depends on how you all respond to the online version (we can have polls now, too!).
Here at the Broadside, we are very excited for the new year and these new additions to the paper! If you are interested in contributing or have any other ideas on how to improve it, please email us at the Broadside school email (broadside@hanovernorwichschools.org) or stop by Room 107 on any Tuesday during Activity Period to speak with us. We hope the school year has started out fantastically for all of you and that you enjoy these awesome new additions to the Broadside!
Your editors,
Sarah Ramírez and Rachel Margolis
