Doucette Lights Up State Meet as Winter Track Finishes Strong
Last Sunday the Hanover High Winter track team participated in the culminating meet of the season: states. The highlight of the day was a strong performance from Kyle Doucette, who won both the boys 55 and 300-meter dash, setting personal records in both races. Other top finishers include Colm Seigne, who finished second in the 600-meter race and helped both the 4x400m relay and the 4x800m to top finishes. The 4×800 relay finished third overall with a strong time, run by Jack Lynch, Daniel Frost, Matt Bonner, and Colm Seigne. The boy’s 4×400 relay finished second, run by Doucette, Deveon Martin, Quincy McBride, and Seigne. Martin also placed fourth in the 55-meter dash, scoring four points for the Marauders. The boys placed second overall, scoring 46 points and finishing just six points behind Portsmouth.
On the girl’s side, the top finisher was Ella Maclean who set a personal record in the 55-meter dash, placing second. Also running the 55 was Zoe Onyango, who placed sixth, just high enough to score points for the team. Onyango also had a good finish in the long jump, placing fifth overall. Another strong performance came out of Chrissy Aman, who finished third in a deep 600-meter race. The girl’s team finished with 17 points, good enough for an eighth-place finish overall.
Four Marauders finished with good enough times to qualify them for the New England Championship. In order to qualify, athletes need to finish with a top-six time in the state, including division one. For the boys, Doucette qualified in both of his individual events and Seigne qualified in the 600. For girls, Maclean qualified for the 55-meter dash, and Aman qualified in the 600. In addition, the boys 4x800m team ran a fast enough time to land them a spot in the top six. The New England meet will be held on March 2nd in the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center in Roxbury Crossing, Massachusetts.
